Escritor australiano. Cuando joven, viajó entre Australia e Inglaterra, donde asistió a la Universidad de Cambridge. Después de servir en la Real Fuerza Aérea durante la segunda guerra mundial, regresó a Australia, un país que a su modo de ver vivía un inestable proceso de crecimiento y autodefinición. Sus novelas, de tono algo misantrópico, suelen explorar las posibilidades de salvajismo en ese clima social, como
